Arrival in Zagreb

Today we arrived in Zagreb after leaving Brunswick on Wednesday afternoon for Atlanta.  After a great meal at One Flew South in the Atlanta airport we flew overnight to Zagreb.

As we were landing in Amsterdam (before our connecting flight to Zagreb), we saw a wind farm in the North Sea.  They place the wind turbines far enough from the shore that they look like toothpicks and do not destroy the view.  They were quite impressive from the air!

Once we arrived in Zagreb (our luggage was still in Atlanta), we quickly checked in to the Hotel Esplanade.  It dates back to 1925 and was built for people traveling on the Orient Express as a stop between Venice and Belgrade.

After settling in, we walked a few blocks and had a great dinner at Vinodol. All four of us wanted to order veal “cooked under the bell” so we took the recommendation of the waiter and ordered a few appetizers and three main meals to share - one beef, one lamb, and one veal.  This area of Croatia was heavily influenced by Germany and Austria and the dishes are very meat and potato centric.
